New Class Contemporary Dance Technique with Peter Kalivas

Fridays 10 to 11:30 am
Contemporary Technique class will begin with exercises meant to bring attention to and challenge the ways in which dancers balance, are clear and efficient in their practice and performance.  We will do standing phrases, stretch and learn choreography that travels across the floor to explore dynamic, quality, phrasing and how we use time and intention.

Peter Kalivas

Peter G. Kalivas was an original member of Sean Curran Company (1997-2003) premiering now famous roles at The Joyce Theater, Jacob's Pillow, The Bates Dance Festival among others and tours across the US and abroad.  He was a soloist of The Pearl Lang Dance Theatre also in New York, The Iwanson Dance Company and The Bavarian State Opera Ballet in Munich, Germany and has worked with both Judith Jamison (Artistic Director of The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre) and Donald Byrd ("The Color Purple" on Broadway, Donald Byrd/The Group, Spectrum Dance Theatre) and co-choreographed “Kilt” Off-Broadway starring Tovah Feldshuh.  Also, a professional singer he has worked on Broadway as Mr. Mistofelles in "Cats", and many other theatrical productions in NYC, National Tours, Las Vegas, Atlantic City and European Television.  He is currently a dance training consultant for Cirque du Soleil/Las Vegas. 

Founder and Artistic Director of The PGK Project, a Contemporary Dance Company his work has been presented, commissioned for both ballet and contemporary/modern companies worldwide including Jacob's Pillow, Le Festival D'Avignon in France, Festival Musica e Arte in Italy, La Festival de Cerventino in Mexico, The Stamping Ground Dance Festival in Australia, Dance Platform in Turkey and Dances Taiwan among others.  His company performs all year locally, regionally, nationally and internationally and maintains a pre-professional program and company "The PGK Project Too". 

A Fulbright Scholar and a Senior Cultural Specialist through dance for the US Department of State acknowledged for his work by President Obama; locally he produces "San Diego Dances" Professional Platform, "Dance Moves" in Temecula, ChoreoLab, The Dance Platform for both ART San Diego and ArtWalk (2012) and is the dance lecturer and audience development outreach consultant for The La Jolla Music Society and The San Diego Symphony.
